Dining Decor: Fall Fiesta

As much as I don’t want to admit it, fall is quickly approaching. I know soon enough, my bright colored clothing ensembles and home decorations will have to be put away for the season, and the comfy, earth-toned fall items will need to be brought out. That does not mean things are going to get boring though! I don’t think I will ever succumb to the all black ensembles that many people choose to stick to once chilly temps arrive. That’s just not me! In my every day dressing, and in my home decorating, I still have to incorporate color. I think it is sometimes even more essential for me when the days turn gray in fall and winter months. There is not much better, or easier, than a quick pick me up from a colorful ensemble, or in this case, a tablescape!

The inspiration for this table first came about when I spotted these fun cactus glasses. Cactus has been everywhere this season, and while I don’t think I could pull it off in clothing, I figured I could in drinkware. It got me thinking that cactus may make us think of summer, since they are found in warm places, but in those places, they are seen year round. So, I’m saying it’s totally acceptable to style a fall table with them.

Of course, as my mind was wondering through all the places you see cactus, and while I was gathering inspiration, the logical thought was FIESTA! A fiesta, according to the dictionary, is “an event marked by festivities or celebration.” Perfect, right? From there I knew I had to use fun colors you would see in places like Mexico and Arizona. Brights, but not too bright. Fall “fun“colors you could say. To keep the look grounded and balanced, I decided a simple black tablecloth, layered with black and white striped dish towels for a runner (Yes, you read that right. I was thinking outside the box to get what I wanted.) would be ideal. And, in the end, the results definitely make me wanna party! What about you…care to join my fiesta?

In the past I have given you ideas on how to decorate your table like mine. This month, I want to give you just two tips! One, think creatively. I wanted a black and white striped runner and when I did not find what I wanted, I improvised. With two dishtowels I made my own runner. I also used flowered napkin rings as decoration around an otherwise plain plant. And two, don’t feel locked into the typical decorating style of the season. Normally for September you would see apples or pumpkins decorating a table. Not for this girl! I still want to have fun with my style and decorate in a way that represents me, but coordinates well with the season.
