Bobbi Brown is a name eponymous in the beauty world. She has spent years making women feel gorgeous on the outside, and now she is making them feel equally as gorgeous on the inside. That’s right, the woman you know as a makeup mogul will soon be recognized as a complete beauty guru. I recently had the chance to interview Bobbi to talk about her brand new endeavor into the wellness world with the launch of her EVOLUTION_18 line. Bobbi has a wealth of beauty and wellness knowledge and I feel lucky to have learned some of her best kept secrets – and to be able to share them with you. She is brilliant, witty, and a girl after my own heart who likes a good vodka on the rocks!
Sarah: Bobbi, you have been revolutionary in the makeup world and so many women look up to your for your beauty advice, and business savvy. What sparked your interest in branching out into wellness and starting EVOLUTION_18?
Bobbi: My lifelong philosophy has always been that beauty and confidence start with what you put inside your body. The launch of EVOLTUION_18 was a natural extension for me, especially after spending decades talking to women about their health and wellness challenges. Now as a certified health coach, I understand even more about what products we need to use in order to look and feel our best.
Sarah: Beauty is obviously something we as women tend to focus on externally, but what do you think can really help bring out our natural beauty from within? Any special foods, drinks, supplements, etc.
Bobbi: Eating well is the first step to beautiful skin. Collagen is a great place to begin, as it is the main building block in our skin. Ingesting collagen will help increase skin’s firmness and elasticity. My suggestion: add it to your morning coffee or smoothie. Water may sound rudimentary, but it is the most important thing to include in your diet, and is often the most overlooked. Hyaluronic Acid has the ability to hold up to 100 times its weight in water; it is essential for keeping skin healthy and hydrated.
Sarah: What does your daily beauty routine look like?
Bobbi: I don’t wear a ton of makeup. First, I apply a rich moisturizer and a bit of concealer under my eyes. I rarely wear foundation anymore. I use blush that is the color of my cheeks after I have exercised, clear lip-gloss, the blackest of black mascaras, and an eyebrow pencil to fill in my brows. If I am going somewhere special I put a sparkle high on my cheekbone and lower lid, plus extra mascara.
Sarah: What is one thing you swear by, whether that be wellness related or a makeup must?
Bobbi: Apricot oil. You can buy it at your local grocery store. It is an incredible moisturizer and keeps your skin glowing.
Sarah: How do you find balance in your day? With so much going on, and so many successes, what keeps you grounded?
Bobbi: My husband and a vodka on the rocks. I also make sure to exercise at least 30 minutes a day to clear my head.
Sarah: If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life and wear only one makeup product, what would they be?
Bobbi: Water and moisturizer, or bread and blush.
Sarah: So many young women are trying new products and eating new foods, trying to find what is right for their body. On a similar spectrum, so many women are trying to launch and grow businesses. As a successful woman in the industry you must have a wealth of experience. What advice do you have for women in the health and beauty universe?
Bobbi: What works for one person, doesn’t work for everyone. Make sure you are doing what makes you happy and work very hard to turn your dream into a reality. If one door closes, don’t get discouraged. Find a window to go through.
After my interview with Bobbi, I was flipping through People magazine and read an article about her that made me even more in awe of her talents. Not only is she passionate about beauty and wellness, she is passionate about women. You may have thought that anyway, since she has a gorgeous cosmetics line. But, I mean passionate in the sense that truly cares about their well-being from the time they are girls. (She supports Girls Inc., which is an organization that empowers girls through education, mentoring and financial resources.) It makes me proud to see women in this world building up other women. Whether that be from helping them have a flawless face, make them glow from within or supporting organizations that help strong girls become strong women.
