Pink in Palm Springs – it’s just the happiest color to transport you back in time, which is easy to do in this city. From the minute you drive in from the desert, Palm Springs feels like a nostalgic oasis. It oozes mid-century modern charm every which way you look. From the homes to the restaurants, the shops to the cars, and everything in between, you’ll feel like you stepped back in time. And while your fashion doesn’t have to have retro flair or even retro color, it’s a guarantee you’ll be surrounded by happy hues. Pink in Palm Springs is not a rarity. Neither is orange, green, blue, purple. The rainbow is all around you in Palm Springs – sometimes subtly, sometimes not so subtly. Pops of color jump out in many places, but one place decided a pop wasn’t enough.
The Trixie Motel is a Barbie dreamhouse come to life! From the moment you enter the starburst-studded doors you’re flooded with pink. It’s happiness personified! I know the rooms are equally as cute, and equally as over the top of the public spaces, so if you get a chance, spend a night playing Barbie. If an overnight stay doesn’t fit into your plans, buy a day pass for the pool and float in a 60s swimmy, or dine at the onsite eatery and just enjoy the mountain views.
I’ve adored mid-century modern style for as long as I can recall. I have many vintage furniture pieces in my home mixed with current day modern style. I don’t shy away from color either. And just like in my home, my wardrobe has some mid-century flair too! Accessories are the easiest way to pay homage to times gone by. (And they are fun to shop at vintage markets.) In this case a jeweled headband and bedazzled sunnies takes a basic black ensemble back in time. I can just picture my 1960’s self sitting poolside, enjoying all the pink in Palm Springs!
This is your FSA (fashion service announcement) to find your favorite pop of color, then incorporate it into your home or your wardrobe. It may not mean you step into Barbie’s dreamhouse, but it will help you step into happiness.
