Do you have a piece of clothing that you put on that instantly evokes a special memory or plays a musical tune in your head? It’s funny how a piece of fabric can evoke emotion. That’s the power of fashion – just like a smell can transport you to another time and place, or a song can dredge up a forgotten memory, so too can clothing. Sometimes clothes pull out sad memories and sad songs, but I like to reach for the pieces in my closet that bring joy. Maybe that explains my love of color and patterns.
This dress for example, I just glimpse it and hear “Ole, ole, ole, ole. Oh yeah, we rum-bum-bum-bum. Oh yeah, we rum-bum-bum-bum. Feeling hot, hot, hot. Feeling hot, hot, hot.” While I have yet to visit Rio, the locale plastered across the dress, I imagine it to be exactly what The Merrymen sing about in that famous song. This dress really resonates with the lyrics – “What to do on a night like this? Music sweet, just can′t resist. We need a party song. A song of mental jam.”
While I look for a stateside party, and maybe plan a trip to Rio, for now I will be wearing this dress, soaking up the very last moments of summer (I draw it out as long as I can), and feeling hot, hot, hot.
