I may not be the person to offer packing advice, unless like me, you want to be the over-packer who will have options for all scenarios on any trip. It’s a blessing and a curse, and at this age – it’s just who I am. There, I said it, my name is Sarah, and I am an over-packer. Yes, I always take a checked suitcase that tips the scales, plus a full size carry on and a “personal item” that is stuffed to the brim. Do I hate that I do this? Sometimes. But I am a fashion girlie, and I like to have options. And when you are on vacation it seems like a great time to bring out all your most fun pieces. And even though I’ll always have plenty of options on a trip, I have learned to simplify a little.

I always try to pack within a color scheme, so that I can mix and match as many pieces as possible. I don’t bring an entire jewelry chest anymore, just more minimal pieces I know will go with everything, and some sparklier options to take a look from day to night. I also like to pack pieces that are versatile. Take the LBD (for those who don’t know, that’s little black dress) in these photos. It’s a must have for any closet because it can truly be worn so many ways. Throw a funky leather jacket over it and pair with sneakers and you’ve got a cool casual look to wander a new city. Pair it with a chunky sweater and boots, with a glitzy earring and shimmering clutch, and you’ve got a great evening look.

Here I have paired it with a denim blouse and cotton wrap. Both looks could be business appropriate for work. Both could be great to grab brunch or happy hour cocktails with friends. Both could be worn in any city around the globe. So, while yes, I may pack it, among it many, many other items, it will always make styling easier both at home and on the go. Whether you are like me hauling multiple suitcases on any trip, or packing as light as possible, a satin, spaghetti strap LBD is a must add to any closet. And here’s the best part – it doesn’t have to break the bank. I stumbled upon this one at Target – likely while was looking for the soap aisle – because, that’s how Target works.
