I may be a city girl, but I do love venturing out to the burbs. It’s good to escape the hustle and bustle from time to time. And last time this city girl shared her suburban adventures with you, it was when I traveled west to Geneva and St. Charles, Illinois. This time, I’m taking you north, to Highland Park, Illinois. It’s a great town in Chicago’s famed North Shore. This cute town is easily accesible by the Metra. The train literally rolls right into the middle of town. If you are inclined to drive, I recommend taking Sheridan Rd. out of the city. You will have a wonderful tour of gorgeous homes the entire way there.
Highland Park has some very cute restaurants, which I’ve heard give suburbanites a true reminder of city, as they are trendy and in line with what “foodies” want. If you are more in the mood to shop, well you’ve got lots of options here too. From beauty essentials, to lingerie and pajamas, to kids clothes, candy or bridal gowns, this town has it all. I have some great stops for you to check out, and a really fun event you can go to — this week actually!

Did you know that February is national wedding month? I didn’t either, until recently. I guess the reasoning is that all brides are really starting to finalize their details for their spring and summer weddings, which is the busiest time of year for weddings. If you happen to be one of those brides, or just a gal that LOVES to shop (it is Valentine’s month afterall, and you deserve to pamper yourself), then you should make your visit to Highland Park this Thursday, February 1 for Posh Essentials “Tune Up Your Love” event. Posh, which sells lux sleepwear, adorable gifts, lingerie and athleisure pieces, will be teaming up with other local businesses to bring you a night of shopping, snacking, toasting, getting makeovers and testing bridal looks, and maybe you can even get your fortune read. Cos Bar will be on hand to answer all of your beauty questions (they have a beautiful store just a few steps away from Posh, feauturing gorgeous makeup and skincare lines). Goodies will be providing snacks and sweet treats, and Simply Luxe Bridal will have goodie bags, look books and samples. If you can’t make it this week, don’t fret, Posh puts on a “Tune Up Thursday” event once a month.

If you choose to make your visit to Higland Park on another day, maybe a weekend, there are lots of other stores you can visit as well. I really enjoyed E Street Denim, Nic + Zoe, Vintage Nest and Style Shack. My advice, whether you go to Highland Park, another suburb of Chicago, or any city – get out and explore. You never know what you might come across!
