When you envision your happy place, what do you see? I bet some of you think of the beach, while others think of the bustling city, maybe some a restaurant or even your favorite store. But, did any of you immediately think “ball pit” or “confetti dome?” If not, I can guarantee these places will indeed make you happy. I experienced it firsthand this past weekend, and I am glad to report that you can find these, and many more unique happy places just like them, at the Happy Place Chicago!

The Happy Place is a pop up experience designed to, you guessed it, bring more happiness into the world. It’s on tour across the globe, and currently is in its second stop, Chicago. (You can get your happiness on in Chicago through September 3.) It was founded by Jared Paul and first launched in Los Angeles in November 2017. I can only imagine that the experience has already brought a whole lot of happy to thousands of attendees, with thousands more likely to come as it continues to travel around the world.

The Happy Place isn’t just about what you will see (trust, me there is a lot to see), but it’s about how you will feel. Each and every “place” you enter as you journey through the experience will elicit a different feeling. I would advise that you go with a small group, as it’s always more fun to experience new things with other people…plus, they can take pictures for you, and you for them. (There will be a lot of that too.) Not only will you get to experience the happiness with your group, you will get to watch all of your fellow happy seekers and see how the places make them feel too. (They send you into the space in groups, so it’s never too crowded, which is very nice.)

Let’s get back to what you will actually see, because I know that’s what you’re really wondering about. Well, it’s endless! It seems like it just keeps going and going – which is a great thing, as you truly will have so much fun you won’t want it to end. The first room we walked into was a candy lovers dream. It was decorated in yellow and white stripes, with a candy dispenser wall, giant shoes decorated with M&M’s and a yummy sampling of smiley chocolates. There was a room with happy palm trees, a room with lots of lips and love, a room to shake your groove thing, a rainbow room with a giant ball pit (yes, you can jump in it!), a flower filled space, a giant confetti dome and much more.

Happy Place is just the cutest exhibit! I am sure it will do well wherever it travels. You truly can’t help but smile the whole way through. It’s a great activity for people of all ages, so take your friends, your kids, your parents, your date, whoever…I promise you will have fun. And, the next time you think of your “happy place,” you may have a whole new set of images that come to mind!
