Imagine hopping into your vehicle, ready to head to work, only to remember said vehicle is a giant hot dog. Well, Habanero Hayley and Ketchup Kyle do just that every day. They have the task of driving Oscar Mayer’s Wienermobile around the country. They are what we call Hotdoggers. As you could imagine, having a job where you drive around in a massive meat mobile is pretty interesting. I had a nice chat with Hayley about their roles with the company, and she let me know that being a Hotdogger has a lot of fun moments, and then of course those hard ones too, you know, where you might have a little trouble parking your “car.” It is after all the vehicle they have to use on their days off too. Imagine having to do a Target errand run, rolling up in a giant hot dog – you are bound to get people stopping for pictures and questions. But, the adventure of working alongside the Wienermobile seems worth it!

For a whole year, Hotdoggers get to travel the US, spreading the word about Oscar Mayer, and bringing smiles to millions of faces. Whether it’s people who grew up with the theme song, wishing they were an Oscar Mayer wiener (that is what they truly want to be), or people who have never even heard of it, you can guarantee they will get a kick out of the Wienermobile. Hayley and Kyle both agreed that it’s really wonderful to see how something like this can put a smile on someone’s face that is dealing with a hard time. Not only do Hotdoggers get to bring joy to the people that they meet in person throughout their stops across the U.S., they also get to partake in fun events; such as, parades and celebrity rides.

On top of driving this wacky vehicle and interacting with tons of people daily, Hot Doggers are doing a lot of other stuff behind the scenes. They work with local media garnering news stories, they book their travel, map out their routes across country and work directly with headquarters. Most Hot Doggers are fresh meat, straight out of college (see what I did there?!), looking for a fun adventure and real world experience. No matter what they studied in school, being a Hotdogger gives them amazing work, and life lessons. You may never think it could be true, but a giant hot dog could your ticket to success!

So, if you see the Wienermobile pass you on the road (there are 6 of them driving around the U.S. at any given time), give a wave to the Hotdoggers behind the wheel. And if you get a chance to see it up close and personal, don’t take a bite, but do get a wienie whistle.
