Most little girls love to put on flowy, ruffled dresses and to twirl. Heck, it’s kind of a sport, or at least a pastime in the world of girly girls! Not much has changed for me as an adult. I still love a dress (or skirt) that when I put it on instantly makes me want to twirl. Maybe it’s because it brings me back to dreams of being a Disney Princess, maybe because it makes me feel like or kid or maybe, simply because it’s just fun fashion.
As I’ve gotten older, my fashion preferences have evolved and changed, which I think is true for all of us. But, I have noticed, it’s actually only been slight changes. Sure, I am not wearing the puffy dresses I twirled in at 6, and maybe not even the same ones that would have inspired a twirl or two at 20. But, while my tastes may get more sophisticated in some senses, they stay sweet and fun too! I still like ruffles, I just want them to look grown-up. I still like flowy fabrics (hello comfort), but want to look put together, not like I am wearing a ballgown, or a tent. I still like patterns and pops of color, I just know how to combine them well. The point of all of this is simply to say not to lose yourself in trends, or how you think you have to dress – whether that’s for your age, your job, your friends, etc.
Fashion is about expressing your personality. Let that 6 year old shine through, and allow that 20 year old to make an appearance too. Find what you love and upgrade it to work for you today, and for what makes you confident and happy now!
