Well, that would be yesterday. Not only the first Monday in May, but also the first Monday since launching Sarah In Style with no new post. Life has just been a little hectic (in a good way) lately; it caught up with me and I ran out of time. But, a day late allows me to write about a fashion girls’ dream event, the Met Gala.
Last month I was invited to attend a screening of the film The First Monday in May. If you love fashion, you will love this film. It’s a behind the scenes look at one of fashion’s biggest nights of the year. (If you didn’t guess by now, the Met Gala falls each year on the first Monday in May.) During the film you learn about the tedious task of narrowing down the guest list, decorating for the event, planning the theme, raising money for the Costume Institute (I would die to tour their collection!) and most importantly, launching the newest exhibit on fashion at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC. The film talks in great detail about two of their best attended exhibits; last year’s China: Through The Looking Glass and 2011’s Savage Beauty, about the great Alexander McQueen.
In honor of this great film, and yesterday’s big event, here are some of my favorite ensembles.
Keep in mind, the theme was “Fashion in the Age of Technology.” (Envision less computer technology, rather more enhancements in the way clothing is made and details. i.e. feathers, appliques, beading, etc.) What do you think? Did these people resonate the theme in your opinion?
You can probably tell there are some obvious color trends? Silver, white and gold galore!
