Best Dressed: Met Gala 2021

The pandemic that has plagued the world for the last 18+ months has altered and limited our lives in so many ways we probably couldn’t even count them. For us fashionistas, the dramatic effect on clothing and style was a big impact. Yes, it’s trivial in the big picture, but fashion is happiness and joy; it’s a representation of ourselves, our cultures, our goals – all things we need to focus on now more than ever. Fashions biggest night out, the Met Gala, finally got its platform (aka ~~red~~ beige carpet) once again. Since we didn’t get a gala in 2020, or May of this year, there has been a lot of hype and anticipation leading up to it, and boy did the looks live up to the wait. After a year and half of hearing about people only wearing sweats, seeing them only from the waist up or just seeing people not care about how they look, this red carpet was a big reprieve for fashion and for my soul.

The theme this year, part one of the Costume Institutes two part exhibit, was “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion.” Part two will take place on the first Monday in May, the regular date of the gala, and will be “In America: An Anthology of Fashion.” Thanks to Vogue and E! we got to watch the stars strut their stuff on the carpet, but what was even better than just seeing the incredible looks, was hearing how the designers, stylists and stars incorporated the theme into them, and what “In America” means to them in terms of fashion. There was an interpretation for everyone – from stars and stripes to old Hollywood glamour, we saw it all. And there was so much fabulousness! Here are my picks for best dressed at the 2021 Met Gala!
