We waited a long time here in the Midwest for Mother Nature to usher in summer weather, and it seems that she has finally sent that to us, and in full force. Getting around Chicago lately has felt a little more like walking a path in the jungle, not strutting down a city street. The humidity has been off the charts. So I figure, why not dress the part! If it feels like the tropics, just act like it is the tropics.
I’m not sure anything says “tropics” more than palm leaves and toucans, and luckily I have an affinity for both, and a closet full of fun pieces that fit the bill. I’ve said it before, and I will say it again…how you dress can really affect how you feel, and when you are dressed like you belong on a beach or a jungle safari, you are bound to be happy. And, this outfit definitely makes me smile!
Some people might shy away from wearing such bold patterns away from a pool/beach, but not this girl! In fact, my flowy palm print top is meant to be a beach cover-up, but my mom kindly added a belt to it for me, making it easy to cinch and wear anywhere. Paired with a comfy pair of black jogger pants, a simple white tank and sleek white sandals, you have the perfect casual summer outfit. And remember those toucans I mentioned, I had to incorporate them, because, WHY NOT! I added a super cute, and lightweight hat, which adds a nice pop of color to the outfit while also keeping that hot and humid sun out of my face. (This piece, while cheeky, is so versatile! I have worn it with a cute sundress and also at the beach and the pool.) And to tie it all together, a black and white striped purse, with another toucan of course.
There is a lot going on with this outfit, but it all works well together. I think sticking with a theme, a few staple colors and just a couple prints keeps it spunky without sending it over the top. It’s the perfect look for summer, especially this hot and humid one we are having. It truly makes me feel, even while walking the city streets, that I am in the jungle, albeit an urban one!
