These inspirational lyrics were made famous in the well known song Pure Imagination from the 1971 kids classic Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory. The song, and the movie (as well as the 2005 remake) have stood the test of time. From the first time I saw the movie I loved that it transported you into what you could really only dream up in your head. It made fantasy reality. Something I have sought in my life for sure. I have always loved a theme party, costumes, theme parks, the mecca that is Disney, etc. Any place that can make the happy, beautiful, wild thoughts in our heads come to fruition is magical to me, and who doesn’t want to feel magic. When we find places like this that really exist and allow us to escape from the everyday, it’s wonderful. One such place, that leaves chocolate in the dust for adult delights (aka liquor) and has Willy Wonka vibes, but with a kick, actually sits in the heart of downtown Los Angeles.

The Lost Spirits Distillery in downtown LA’s arts district is a dose of what we all need right now. No, I’m not just talking about the strong rum and whiskey they produce. It’s an escape from reality. A chance to dive into another world and feel the wonder and awe of a dreamlike state. Lost Spirits takes you on a whimsical liquor tasting journey, from start to finish. Each and every step of that journey is unique and presents new feelings and emotions, as well as a new drink to try. I don’t want to give too many details, or share too many photos, as it might spoil the fun for you (because you need to visit this place), but I’ll give some hints of what you can expect.

Along this rum/whiskey filled journey, you’ll float down a river, be in the center of a burlesque speakeasy, go through the jungle and take a few rides – possibly on a submarine and a Bohemian “magic carpet.” It all feels like a dream. You truly will be submerged (sometimes quite literally) into another world. Plus, you’ll learn about the process of making rum and whiskey, but through an easy to understand, laugh along the way tour.
