Tweed All About It: Summer Staples & Fall Fashions

Seasonal depression is a real thing. As the weather turns colder and the skies turn darker, sometimes so do our moods. Even more so as we put away the past seasons wardrobe – you know, the pieces we have had on repeat over the last several months. Well, fear not, it’s totally okay to mix and match between the seasons! Do you want to wear your sandals in a snow storm? Heck, no. But, you can pull off lots of summer staples well into fall. Just think of it as a good time to close out one seasonal wardrobe and slowly step into the next.

While we often think of chambray as a summer denim staple, it’s perfect for fall. It pairs well with lightweight linens in the spring and summer, but equally as well with chunky fabrics in the fall and winter. A long sleeve chambray shirt is one of the most versatile wardrobe staples you can own. It can be worn on it’s own, loose over a tee or dress, or even under a sweater. This time of year, as the weather is unpredictable in many locations, it can keep you cool during the hotter moments of the day and warm during the cooler ones.

I paired my chambray button up with a simple white tank and a classic tweed skirt. Pink tweed, with a ruffle adds a little edge to an otherwise stuffy fabric. It’s got some weight and warmth for chilly days and looks totally appropriate for the season. Come winter I can pair the tweed skirt with over the knee boots and it’ll fit in just as well.

In my world, skirts don’t equate to dressing up. I am more comfortable in dresses and skirts and would be in them everyday if I could. But, if skirts mean fancy to you, this is a fun way to dress down a look that might intimidate you. The chambray shirt keeps it casual yet chic, and pairing these pieces with classic white tennis shoes or sneakers keeps the look completely grounded. Plus, you’ll be dressed just right for a weekend brunch or running lots of errands.
