For as long as I can remember, purple has been one of my favorite colors. I am partial to the lilacs, lavenders and periwinkles of the purple family. Whether on clothing or home decor, the softness is girly and feminine, with a more subtle punch than pink. A lot of people may think pastel purples can only be worn in warm weather months, but they’d be wrong. It’s a beautiful color in spring, a bright bold in summer, a nice contrast in fall and a cozy comfort in winter. When you find the perfect pastel purple sweater that can literally take you through all those seasons, well that’s just purple perfection!
You’ve heard my opinion on the “no white after labor day” theory before, but I will say it again – it’s NOT a rule you have to follow! Fashion is for you, so do what you love and what you want. You can absolutely make white work any of time of year, it’s all about what you pair it with. For a warm fall day I paired my on-trend, frayed, white flare jeans with a soft and super cozy purple sweater. A bow-tiful purse blended in but had a cut accent. Sandals rounded off the look – because hey, here in the midwest, you have to take advantage of sandal weather.
Each of these pieces can easily be paired with something else to make an entirely new, seasonally appropriate look. I could wear the purple sweater with dark denim and boots in winter, while I could wear the white pants with a black chunky sweater and equally chunky loafers for the same season. Come summer, the purple sweater would look cute with chambray shorts and white tennis shoes, while the white pants could easily be worn with a bright pink ruffled tank and strappy sandals. You get the idea!
The moral of this fashion story, as it often is with me, is that you can make most of your favorites work year-round. It’s all about pairing them with the right pieces and accessories. Fashion is a reflection of you, so if you too love periwinkles, lilacs and lavenders and you want to wear them from the first snowfall through the hottest day of summer – do it!
