Today, I thought I’d go the funny route here on Sarah In Style. With so many travels lately, I feel like I have tested out every seat on the plane. There is one (well, several, depending on the size of your plane) that most people covet…the window seat of an exit aisle. Last week on a flight to California, I settled into this valuable seat, but an hour in, wasn’t so sure. Quick trips in this seat in the past have been ideal, but a flight cross-country, I’m not sure if I am on board (pun intended!). I’m debating if it’s really all it’s cracked up to be. So, I decided to weight the pros and cons. (Of course, while staying within the 50 pound limit for luggage. Hehe.)
Pros
- Lots of leg room
- A window, of course
- No one will be reclining in your lap (The seats here don’t recline in order to keep the aisle free should an emergency arise.)
- You can easily get up to stretch or use the restroom without having to ask your neighbors to move
- The flight attendants seems to treat you more like a VIP
- You can keep your bag (i.e. “personal belonging”) with you, unlike the front row (where you also get more legroom), where you have to stow it until you reach 10,000 feet
- If an emergency actually happened you could be a HERO
Cons
- You can’t recline for a nap
- There is usually no arm rest (In this seat, it’s easier for people to exit the plane in an emergency without an arm rest in the way.)
- You sit farther back in the plane, making your time to exit the plane a little longer
- You don’t have much of a view since you are over the wing
- You sit there wondering, what if this door just flew open in the middle of my flight
- If an emergency actually happened, you would have to do some work
So, what do you think? Do you like the window seat of the exit aisle? Where is your ideal pick on the plane.
P.S. readers, Happy Halloween. Hope you are out being spooky little stylemakers!
