It’s the middle of the week, and for some of you that means you’re saying “yay, it’s almost Friday!”, while the rest of you are saying “crap, it’s only Wednesday.” While it’s always best to stay positive, that mid-week slump sure can sneak up on us. We all have different methods to bring ourselves out of that. Maybe you hit the gym, do a little retail therapy, binge watch your favorite show, get too happy at happy hour? Well, I have a new boost for you. A fun read, full of wit and humor, but most importantly inspiration for healthy eats, which will no doubt keep that slump from hitting too hard.
I received Squeeze Life a while back and have really been enjoying reading it. You’ve heard me say before that I don’t typically follow recipes, so you might be surprised to find I am loving this “cookbook.” Well, it’s mainly because it’s not truly a cookbook, it’s what I would call a “raw book.” The author, Karlin Brooks, owner of The Squeeze juice shop in NYC, teaches you all about raw eating. The book includes over 100 recipes for smoothies, juices, soups and snacks, and they are all raw. This means all natural ingredients, and no true cooking. And there is so much info shared on different fruits and vegetables, spices, digestions, and so on.
Sounds boring, right? I get it! But the way this book is written is what makes it a game changer. It takes something normally a little more dull and mundane (I mean smoothies, not the most exciting topic), and really juices them up…pun intended! Not only is all of the information in the book written in a tongue and cheek manner, the name of the recipes are hilarious, like Kale The Pain Away and Hemp Whore-Chata.
My favorite, while not a funny name, is the Banana Bread smoothie. Who would have thought to add cinnamon and nutmeg to a smoothie? But it’s so good! (Sidenote, I did not have vanilla, so used vanilla cashew milk. I have also added spinach and it still tastes just like banana bread.)
So, whether you are just looking to get out of your mid-week slump, or you are looking for a personal revamp and a chance to really Squeeze Life, I definitely recommend this book. Whether you make the recipes or not is up to you, but just reading it will make your day seem a-okay.
