To quote the famous Cuban, Gloria Estefan, “the rhythm is gonna get you” and she certainly is right. Cuba has a flair all it’s own. You can see it in the architecture, the colorful cars and buildings, the authentic cuisine, and mostly you can feel it in the music. You will hear it all day and all night, everywhere you go. It booms from the cars and bikes passing you on the street, pumps from the restaurants and clubs, and echoes out of homes all across the nation (or at least in Havana, which I can be witness to).
This outfit, while really nothing like what the locals wear, is the epitome of Cuba to me. Colorful, full of flair, vibrant, energetic and bold. While most locals stroll around in your typical American sports brands (Nike, Aeropastle and Old Navy) or local casual pieces, I had to rock this colorful number. No, they don’t have elephants, but that’s just a little snafu of this look. Also, it is so hot and humid I would not recommend wearing an ensemble like this for too long, but it was a great dinner ensemble, and since it is a two piece, perfect for mixing and matching throughout the trip. Cuba is an idyllic place to wander, so a flowy skirt is perfect. There is just so much to see and the easiest way to truly get a feel for the local culture is to just walk through the neighborhoods. All of these photos were take in Centro Habana, near the Capitolo, where I stayed.
