Dining Decor: You Can’t Have A Bad Day With Polka Dots

There is a saying, which you can find famously quoted on Kate Spade merchandise that says “you can’t have a bad day in polka dots.” It may seem trivial, but I think it’s true. Think back to a time you wore polka dots, or maybe even just saw them, I bet you were happy. If you look up the meaning behind polka dots you’ll find words like whimsy and playfulness. Afterall, one of the happiest gals on the planet wears them regularly, and if they make her happy they are bound to do the same for all of us. Yes, you know I am talking about none other than Minnie Mouse! But polka dots don’t just have to be worn on your body, you can “wear” them on (well, in) your home. They can be very grown up and stylish, while still being playful and whimsical. This dining decor post is less about the table and more about the space!

My home is my sanctuary. It’s a place I feel best represents my personality. You can see that in the colors I showcase, and the patterns and prints I choose to decorate with. I like to have fun with home decor, but I like it to look sophisticated, stylish and most of all it has to be (somewhat) practical. When it comes to my home, I want myself and my guests to feel like they can live freely in my space. You can eat on the couch, you can touch the artwork, and most important of all, you can wash the rugs!

My Magic Carpet lets you do just that! You can find super stylish, and often playful rugs, at a great price and you can rest assured, because you can wash them all. No more telling guests they can’t have foods of a certain color, or making your kids eat over plastic. Monica Dallyn, the mompreneur behind My Magic Carpet set out to design an affordable, high-end-style one piece area rug solution that can go from the washer to the dryer and then to the floor with no fuss. She nailed it. I have loved my polka dot rug (which is actually called the Puff Dotty and was designed by Genevieve Gorder) since the day I put it down on the floor in my new home, and it makes me smile each and every time I pass by it. I have washed it a few times and it has held up beautifully. Pieces like this are reminders that homes can be fun, they can be playful, they can be sophisticated, and they can represent exactly who you are, but they can still let you live your life – spills and all.

P.S. I have moved within the last year, so there will be plenty more home decor posts to come! And more on the move itself too.
