Plum Perfection

I adore design, and have always loved decorating. HGTV is my favorite channel, and I have seen every single episode of House Hunters (probably twice!). When I need help falling asleep at night I rearrange rooms in my head. Odd tactic, I know, but it relaxes me. Needless to say, it’s probably obvious how excited I am to share my design/decorating tips with you all, as well as some of my DYI projects.

Last year I had the fun chance to appear on Apartment Therapy in a “room color contest.” I submitted my living room, although I do love all of my rooms equally, because it has such a pop of color. Check out the feature here.

My Inspiration: I wanted a grown-up room that is still fun. I like classic looks that have pops of color to go along with my personality, which I like to think is pretty vibrant. I also wanted my space to feel warm and cozy without feeling stuffy at all. I would say my design astetic is a mix of contemporary and modern. I like to incorporate old and new pieces into one space. My TV stand was my great grandmother’s dresser from the 1960’s, and my side tables are vintage finds from one of my favorite antique stores in Michigan.

My Tips for Using Color: Be sure you love the color! If it makes you happy and you use it somewhat sparingly and tastefully you are bound to enjoy it for years to come. If it is not something you like right away, it’s not likely to grow on you, so change it. The joy of paint is that it can always be changed.
