My how time flies. One week ago today I was in the midst of a great vacation in Florida, and now, well, I am stuck back in snowy, cold Chicago. I love my city, don’t get me wrong, but in the middle of frigid temperatures and grey days, it is a good idea to get away and recharge your batteries. And usually, at least for me, that means getting some sunshine and warm weather. You can probably see where I am going with this…but if the key fits, I say put the car in drive (or hop on a plane!) and head down to the Florida Keys. The Keys is a piece of the Caribbean right here in the USA. When tropical paradise is so close, you really just have to go! So, I am recapping my visit to the keys below. Just some highlights to pique your interest and hopefully inspire your next getaway.

Where to Stay: Islander Resort (Islamorada), Hawk’s Cay (Duck Key), Margaritaville (Key West), The Marker (Key West)

Where to Eat: Old Tavernier (Tavernier), Island Grill (Islamorada), Morada Bay (Islamorada), Bagatelle (Key West), Latitudes (Key West)

What to Do: Kayak/Paddleboard in Islamorada. Dream of landscaping your own Island Home. Feed the Tarpon at Robbies. Shop local art at The Rain Barrel. Lounge poolside in a cabana at The Cheeca Lodge. See Key West’s best spot on a trolley tour. See a show, or several, in Mallory Square. Take a sunset cruise on the Jolly Rover. Get lost in Hemingway’s world.

Since my parents are in Florida for the winter, in both Destin and the Keys, I am lucky to make this a yearly visit. Check out last years guide for even more ideas!
