When on an island, how do you dress? Well, like an islander of course. Or like a person who loves all things tropical and is taking every advantage they can to dress in tropical attire. A recent visit to Sunset Key, off the coast of Key West, was this time for me.
I know I’ve said it a million times, but I love all things tropical. Palm leaves in particular have always been a favorite. It’s been a decades long obsession! (I’ve only been around 3 of them, but pretty much that whole time!) The palm pattern of my skirt is such a classic print, and luckily with palms so in trend right now, it has been easy to obtain. Heck, I even covered my patio furniture in it. Yup, it’s the same exact fabric. (My mom made both!) I guess having a skirt made out of outdoor fabric, I at least know I am stain and water resistant. Paired with this perfectly palmy skirt, I am actually wearing a one piece swimsuit, which makes it very easy to transition from the beach to the street. Throw on some gold birkies, fun sunnies, add a great bag (my Kate Spade parrot is perfect in this case) and a high pony (length courtesy of Daisy Fuentes) and you are set for a day on the island!
This little island, Sunset Key, was the perfect place to rock the palm print. During a recent trip to Key West, my family and I enjoyed a beautiful breakfast on the island at Latitudes, then spent time lounging in the hammocks on the beach. Not only are the views from the island just phenomenal (it feels more like the middle of the Caribbean than Florida) and the flowers the prettiest I have seen, it is a great little escape from the craziness of Key West. I think the pictures speak for themselves, right?! It’s also apparently a well know island for celebrity retreat as well. If you go, keep your eyes peeled, you may just run into Oprah. (She supposedly has a home here.)
