Most of the country (myself included) may be in the midst of freezing cold temps, gray skies and holiday preparation, but in my head I am always in the tropics. I love where I live (Chicago, Chicago, my kind of town!), but my blood runs thin and this time of year I am freezing 24 hours, 7 days a week, and itching for travel to warmer weather. When that isn’t quite a possibility, I simply think back on times of warmth, mainly vacations in places with plenty of sun, sand, palm trees and tropical backdrops. So I am taking you along with me today, to Florida to be exact!
If you’ve read my previous posts, you likely know I have a fond love of all things PINK, especially buildings. There’s just something magical about a pink palace, whether it’s a home, restaurant or hotel. (See my blog post featuring all of my favorite pink palaces HERE.) When there is historic charm incorporated, well, that just makes it even better! Which is why The Vinoy Renaissance hotel in St. Petersburg, Florida is one of my favorite hotels. (St. Petersburg is pretty great too. See my blog posts on the city HERE and HERE.) It’s a 1920’s art-deco work masterpiece, that over the years has not only been a hotel but a training facility for the Army Air Coprs in the 1940’s. It’s got so much history it only makes sense that it’s an official Historic Hotel of America. Not only is it a great hotel, it perfectly matches one of my favorite styles and pieces of clothing – pink and green palm print, and in particular, this great cover-up!
I got this beautiful cover-up from Spartina for Easter and could barely wait for summer to pull it out of the closet. (Thank goodness for quick getaways to warm places.) The style, the fabric, the tassels, they just make feel classy, whether I am at my own pool in the middle of the city or laying on a tropical beach enjoy a yummy cocktail on vacation. I prefer a swim cover-up that does double duty. A piece that can transition from water to actual wear. One that can easily be worn with regular undergarments and cute sandals to stroll the streets, without anyone being the wiser. For that reason, a cover-up that isn’t shear is usually helpful, and something that packs well, so both me and my garmet aren’t pruney post swim.
Here are couple places I recommend for finding the perfect swimsuit cover up for your next getaway or your summer vacay:
As you have heard me say, oh maybe a thousand times, “I LOVE all things palm print.” When you add pink into the mix and fringe tassels, well, that’s pretty darn close to heaven. This cover-up checks all the boxes and makes me happy anywhere in the world I may be – even in the middle of winter. Find yourself one that does the same – and Happy Swimming!
